Welcome to my website. I am a representational artist working mainly in coloured pencil, living in Ripon, North Yorkshire.

NEWS

 

2018:

 

My picture Bolt has been accepted for the 17th UKCPS Open International Exhibition to be held at The ArtsHouse, Stratford-upon-Avon, from 2nd to 11th May.

 

My art group, The Skellside Group of Artists, is holding its first exhibition, Working on Different Lines, at The Station, Richmond, North Yorkshire from 21st April to 2nd May. We are a group of four artists and will be showing a variety of work, showcasing both coloured pencils and other media.

 

 

2017:


Saturday 23rd September, 10am - 4pm: I will be running a Beginners' Coloured Pencil workshop at the Workhouse Museum, Allhallowgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire. Cost is £50 including lunch and refreshments. All materials will be provided. Please contact me to book a place. 

Blue Door has been accepted into the Artist category of The Artist and Leisure Painter magazines 2017 Open Exhibition, which runs from 13th July to 20th August, at Patchings Art Centre, Calverton, Notts.

I have been invited to contribute to a new Dorling Kindersley book, Artists' Drawing Techniques.

 

HISTORY

 

2015:

Green Door has won both Best Other category and People's Choice awards at the UKCPS regional exhibition in Richmond.

I've had five pictures selected for the 2nd Regional Exhibition of the UKCPS, to be held at The Station, Richmond, North Yorkshire from 3rd to 14th October.

I will be showing eight of my coloured pencil pictures at the Ilkley Art Show, Winter Gardens, Ilkley, from 14th to 15th August.

My picture Just Hanging Around has been accepted for the 14th UKCPS Open International Exhibition to be held at Menier Gallery, Southwark Street, London from 6th to 16th May.

 

2014:

Blue Door has been awarded Highly Commended and accepted into the Artist category at Patchings Exhibition.

UKCPS Dales Group are holding their debut exhibition at the Blue Light Gallery, Little Market Place, Masham, North Yorkshire from 31st May to 27th June. We are a local group of the national society, comprising five local artists who will all be exhibiting and selling coloured pencil and mixed media pictures, and also some crafts.

My picture Green Door has been accepted for the 13th UKCPS Open International Exhibition to be held at The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Gallery in Birmingham from 28th April to 10th May.

2013:

Artists & Illustrators magazine featured an article on me and Blue Door in the Winning Ways section of their December issue.

My picture Blue Door won Best In Show at the 12th UKCPS Open International Exhibition in Patchings Art Centre.

 

I have achieved Silver signature status with the UKCPS, having had pictures accepted for their annual exhibitions five times in the last five years.

I have had three pictures accepted for the 12th UKCPS Open International Exhibition to be held at Patchings Art Centre, Oxton Road, Calverton, Nottingham, NG14 6NU, from 1st September to 6th October 2013.

2012:

I have had two pictures accepted for the 11th UKCPS Open International Exhibition to be held at Nuneaton Museum and Art Gallery, Riversley Park, Coton Road, Nuneaton, CV11 5TU, from 6th October to 25th November 2012.

Saturday 7th July 2012, 10am - 4pm: I will be running a Painting With Coloured Pencils workshop at the Workhouse Museum, Allhallowgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire. Cost is £45 including lunch and refreshments (£80 for both days). All materials provided. Suitable for beginners or those with some experience of the medium. You will learn all the techniques needed to produce realistic and detailed pictures, using artists' quality materials. Please contact me to book a place.

Sunday 8th July 2012, 10am - 4pm: I will be running a Realistic Portraits in Coloured Pencils workshop at the Workhouse Museum, Allhallowgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire. Cost is £45 including lunch and refreshments (£80 for both days). All materials provided. Suitable for those who know the basic techniques of using coloured pencils, and we will build on these to learn how to produce accurate and lifelike portraits. Please contact me to book a place.

28th April - 26th May 2012: My painting Ralph the Deerhound is on show at the 10th World of Coloured Pencil exhibition at the Pencil Museum, Keswick.

2011:

September 2011: I am now a signature member of the UKCPS having had pictures accepted for their last three annual international exhibitions. This entitles me to use the designation "UKCPS".

I have had two pictures, Dougal the Dancing Sheep and Marabou Stork, selected for the 10th UKCPS Open International Exhibition to be held in Methodist Central Hall, Westminster, London, SW1H 9NH, from Monday 19th September to Saturday 1st October. Opening times are Monday to Saturday 9.00am to 5.00pm and Sundays 12 noon to 5pm. Throughout the event there will be workshops which have been billed as "the best coloured pencil workshops available in Europe", demonstrations, a silent auction, have-a-go sessions and a children's trail.


Tuesday 31st May - Wednesday 1st June 2011: I will be taking part in HeArts Heritage Arts Festival at Ripon Workhouse Museum. Many traditional arts and crafts are being demonstrated, including blacksmithing, quilting, spinning and coracle making and I will be showing some of my coloured pencil work as well as demonstrating. The festival runs from 30th May to 1st June from 10am - 4pm.

I will be holding my first solo exhibition FACES in The Loft at Great Northern Wine, The Warehouse, Blossomgate, Ripon from 17th March until 17th May 2011, comprising around two dozen pictures in various media.
Meet the Artist: I will be there on Saturday 19th March from 6pm until late and would love to see you there. Guess the award-winning picture and I'll treat you to a glass of wine!

19th November 2010, 10am - 4pm: Coloured Pencil workshop at Ripon Workhouse Museum. Details as below.

28th - 30th October: Tenth Anniversary Art Exhibition in aid of St Gemma's Hospice to be held at The Grammar School at Leeds, Alwoodley, LS17 8GS. I am exhibiting four paintings. Website: www.st-gemma.co.uk/artexhibition. Please come along and support this worthy cause.

8th October 2010, 10am - 4pm: I will be running a Painting with Coloured Pencils workshop at The Workhouse Museum, Allhallowgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire. Fee: £20 with all materials and refreshments provided (suitable for all abilities). August 2010: Two of my pictures, Her First Oyster and Autumn Wood, have been selected for the 9th UKCPS Annual International Open Exhibition. The exhibition runs from 13th September to 1st October 2010 at the Stamford Arts Centre, Stamford, Lincolnshire.

May 2010: Harrogate and Nidderdale Art Club annual exhibition. Won the Ackrill Trophy, awarded by Club patron, Sir Thomas Ingilby of Ripley Castle.

2009:

September 2009: My painting Stranger on the Shore selected for the 8th UKCPS Annual Open International Exhibition, held at the Royal Birmingham Society of Artists Gallery in Birmingham.
